A boy, his collie, his sheep, and all the time in the world. Anthony Cucchi painted it nearly a century ago. It hasn't aged a day.
This is a large original vintage lithograph of a pastoral scene — a young shepherd boy and his Collie dog watching over their flock against a beautiful blue and white background with gilded border, after the painting "Boy Tending Sheep" by Anthony Cucchi. Circa 1930s–1940s. One available. Unframed.
At nearly 18 inches wide this is a genuinely large print — the kind that commands a wall rather than merely occupying it. The blue and white sky and ground, the warm gilded border, the boy's easy confidence and the Collie's alert attention give the whole composition a timeless quality that feels equally at home in a farmhouse, a study, a boy's room, or any interior that welcomes the pastoral tradition of American illustration at its most charming. These advertisement prints were produced for calendars and promotional use; the best of them are genuine paintings of American rural life, and this is one of the finest examples we've carried.
Minor condition notes: one very small hole in the upper right margin, tiny holes in the gilded margin at top (likely from display pins), a pencil X by the artist signature, and a pencil number on the bottom margin — all photographed and disclosed. None affect the image itself.
A wonderful piece for a pastoral art collector, an equestrian or rural Americana enthusiast, a lover of vintage illustration, or anyone whose wall deserves something genuinely large and beautiful.
